Z!Stream system enables users to execute applications without installing them, by streaming application data as needed. A medley of components interact to achieve this process.A client program manages a running application while a remote file system driver detects application data. Then a server streams the application data to the client as requred. A control server and its user interface are needed to manage the clustered streaming serves.

Z!Stream system can be divided into two types of components: components for streaming service to end users and components for managing the system. Components for streaming service to end users are: Z!Stream Client, Z!Stream Streaming Server, and Z!Stream Web Interface.

Z!Stream Client Launches applications selected by users from the web interface. It has DDARFS accessing Remote File System to DDARFS transfer data files requrested by the applications in real-time. In addition, it has a prefetch module to process data files that are needed by applications before they are launched, process control routines to control launched applications, and a GUI interface.

Z!Stream Streaming Server Communicates with clients and transfers the data files that are needed for an application's execution. Manages Z!pack which packs application data files. Has its own distribution architecture and supplies log data needed for user's billing.

Z!Stream Web Interface Lets users use WWW interface to acess Z!Stream. Various technologies are used for a one-click application launch.
